Michael Porter
Head of Corporate Finance
Financial management of the police service calls for difficult decisions and complicated choices. The interests of the individual and competing operational requirements have to be balanced with the interest of the community as a whole within the finite resources available.
The finance function is instrumental in adding value to the utilisation of police resources. It will play a central role in taking forward the police reform and modernisation agenda by providing business intelligence during the development of proposals and at the point of decision making to ensure that all operations are risk assessed for financial sustainability and the effective use of resources. This will be done by:
- Financial planning and managing financial performance.
- Advising on the deployment of financial resources to ensure that they are deployed in the most effective way to achieve the objectives of the service.
- Supporting managers in the planning of cost effective services and performance managing the provision of these services.
- Managing financial risk and maintaining financial control.
