Head of Crime Operations

Stewart Swinson replaced Mark Braithwaite as head of Crime Operations in May 2010 having previously been District Commander for the Redcar and Cleveland district.

Stewart took up the post of District Commander at Redcar & Cleveland in April 2007. He brought over 26 years experience to the role, ranging from PC on the beat at Stockton through various posts in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Uniform and specialist roles.
 
Although he has spent significant periods of his service in CID, he has also served in Community Safety, Emergency Planning and Operational Performance Departments, gaining a wide range of policing experience across the Cleveland Force area.
 
A keen sportsman he has a particular devotion to triathlon and has competed in events across the UK and Europe, including finishing two separate Ironman distance races in Nice, France.

The Crime Operation service unit provides a variety of specialist investigative assets that support force efforts to reduce crime, increase detections and to tackle serious and organised criminality. 

These assets include:

  •  Force Intelligence Bureau
  • Special Branch and counter terrorist response
  • Economic and Hi-Tech Crime Unit
  • Organised Crime Unit
  • Scientific Support Unit
  • Murder Investigation Team
  • Public Protection (includes dangerous offenders, child abuse investigation, honour-based violence and domestic abuse).
