Employment Monitoring and Diversity Statistics Quarterly Report

Cleveland Police is committed to delivering a high quality policing service to all our communities with equality considerations embedded into all of our activities.

The new integrated equality duty under the terms of the Equality Act 2010 has three main aims for public bodies such as the Police, requiring them to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

The Act requires Cleveland Police to report at least annually on how our policies and practices affect staff and service users with different protected characteristics. The protected characteristics defined under the Act are:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender Reassignment
  • Marriage/Civil Partnership
  • Pregnancy/Maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or Belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual Orientation

Cleveland Police currently reports on its activities through a quarterly diversity monitoring report.

Reports

By collecting, analysing and using information about our policing activities and the workforce, Cleveland Police is better able to:

  • Understand the effect on equality of our current and proposed policies, practices and decisions.
  • Act upon any unfairness, discrimination or disadvantage.
  • Identify what the key priority equality issues are for Cleveland Police.
  • Demonstrate compliance with the equality duty and demonstrate to the public how we are performing and what we are achieving.

The quarterly reports capture data relating to policing activities and officers and staff employed by Cleveland Police.
