How we are structured

The Strategic Development Group is responsible for setting the strategic direction of Cleveland Police in all aspects of diversity and equality.

Strategic Development Group

The Strategic Development Group (SDG) is led by the Chief Constable and attended by every Service Unit Manager. The group has a strategic role in ensuring that diversity remains high profile whilst working towards its embedding within the working practices of the Force.

People and Diversity Service Unit

The Diversity Unit of the People Services Department provides strategic direction in relation to diversity and equality issues to drive organisational change. It has an overarching responsibility to scrutinise and manage organisational performance linked to diversity and equality and to identify what steps are needed to address gaps and achieve success.

Community Justice Department - Communities and Partnerships Unit

The Communities and Partnerships Unit provides operational support through engagement with advisory groups, partner agencies and other local forums. The remit includes a systematic and targeted approach to engaging and involving diverse communities and partners through networks and forums such as the IAG, PREVENT agenda, Neighbourhood Watch, mental health, Community Safety Accreditation, antisocial behaviour, missing persons, hate crime and Firearms Licensing, amongst others.

Policy development in respect of those diverse areas of work and developing an understanding of local environments – cultures, people and places is also an integral part of the work now undertaken by the Unit.
