The local authority is the largest employer in the area and residents are represented by 47 elected council members from 17 wards. The district is policed by 200 police officers and 52 Police Community Support Officers supported by over 40 members of the Special Constabulary. The District covers the areas of Hart, Elwick, Dalton Piercy, Newton Bewley, Greatham and the seaside resorts of Seaton Carew and the Headland.
The District management team consists of a Superintendent (District Commander), Detective Chief Inspector (Crime Manager), Chief Inspector (Operations Manager), Chief Inspector (Neighbourhoods), and two District Administration and Finance Managers (job share).
Superintendent Glenn Gudgeon
District Commander
Glenn joined the police in 1986 at the age of 19, he was posted to the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire where he served as a constable for 14 years in a variety of uniform and CID posts. He was then promoted to sergeant at York and then Northallerton before being promoted to Inspector within the criminal justice department in 2004.
As an Inspector Glenn introduced a team of 80 Civilian investigators to support Police Officers with prisoner handling and case file preparation. He was promoted to Chief Inspector within that department before becoming the force lead for performance and inspection. After a year as a temporary superintendent he returned to CID as the DCI at York before being selected to join Cleveland Police as a Superintendent in 2007.
Glenn was the lead for Specialist Operations including: Road Policing, Firearms, Mounted, Dogs, Public Order, Emergency Planning and the force helicopter. Since 2008 he has been running two major force projects, the roll out of CUPID hand held police information devices and the force outsourcing project.
Glenn joined Hartlepool as district commander in June 2010, a role he has aspired to since joining the police.
