The area covers 46% of the Cleveland Police area and includes the main towns of Redcar, Guisborough, Saltburn and Loftus. It has 58,600 households in a mixture of inner-city and countryside areas ranging from East Middlesbrough to the North Yorkshire Moors.
The district management team consists of a Superintendent (District Commander), Detective Chief Inspector (Crime Manager), Chief Inspector (Operations Manager) and Chief Inspector (Neighbourhoods)
Superintendent Ciaron Irvine
District Commander
Ciaron Irvine joined Cleveland Police in June 1994. He spent the first six years of his service working mainly in uniform duties at Middlesbrough and Stockton Districts, before being promoted to Sergeant at Hartlepool in January 2001.
In 2002 Ciaron returned to Stockton as a Sergeant, before being promoted to Inspector in June 2004, remaining at Stockton. Initially working in response policing, Ciaron then moved to Neighbourhood Policing and operational support, including a period at Police Headquarters in 2006.
Ciaron was promoted to Chief Inspector in April 2007, moving first to Redcar and Cleveland District as Operations Manager then to a role in the Force Control Room.
Ciaron became Head of Community Justice initially on a temporary basis in May 2010. His main responsibilities include the efficient running of the Force’s three main Custody Suites at Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Redcar; the management of prosecution file alongside the Crown Prosecution Service and liaison with partners in the community safety arena across a range of areas including Mental Health, elements of race and diversity, drugs and alcohol intervention and crime prevention. A number of these services are delivered in conjunction with Cleveland Police’s strategic partners: Steria and Reliance Secure Task Management. The Community Justice Department holds these partners to account on behalf of the Force.
Ciaron was made the permanent Head of Community Justice in April 2011 before becoming District Commander of Redcar & Cleveland in January 2012
