Cleveland Police do on occasion receive requests to confirm the identity of persons serving or alleged to be serving with Cleveland Police. Whilst this would be appropriate for legitimate police business this would similarly be inappropriate in private or commercial matters. Cleveland Police can categorically state that none of our officers or staff will use copies/photographs/scanned police warrant/identification cards as proof of identity or legitimacy in the course of any commercial or personal transaction.
If you have been offered goods or services for sale, are engaging in a commercial transaction, or other non police related contact, with someone claiming to serve with Cleveland Police and that person is offering Cleveland Police identification as proof of who they are. They will NOT be a Cleveland Police officer or staff member and you should not conduct any business or transaction with that person.
