Prepared under Section 9 of the Criminal Justice Act 1967, the statements can be given as evidence of the harm caused to the community in a court of law.
Each ward of Middlesbrough and Hartlepool has its own Community Impact Statement. The statements include details of the officer who has written the statement, where the information has come from( but without naming individuals), the local priorities and the most important part, an explanation of what is happening, where it is happening and what the affect on local people is.
The statements are sent to all the Criminal Justice System agencies and partners agencies so that everyone is aware of the concerns of the communities in Middlesbrough and Hartlepool and are able to take this into account when making decisions about how offenders will be dealt with throughout the process of bringing them to justice from charge to sentence and beyond.
Sentencing outcomes will be made more available and the Police will feed information back to you so that you know how your local Community Impact Statement has been used.
