A message from Ciaron Irvine, Redcar & Cleveland's District Commander
Having been away from the District for exactly three years working at Police HQ in Control Room and latterly Community Justice, I am hugely proud to be returning as District Commander and taking up the reins from my friend and colleague Chris Sadler. I expect that he will be an interested onlooker as he remains very keenly interested in local matters as a resident and I have spoken to him on a number of occasions since his retirement.
From the outset, I would like to say how grateful we all are for Chris’ energy and commitment as District Commander and that of DCI Heather Eastwood who took temporary command of the District prior to my arrival. It is clear that there is a very positive outlook right across the District and the number of friendly faces I have seen since my arrival shows how much people want to work for the benefit of the communities here.
These are challenging times for the Police Service, both locally and nationally and the scrutiny under which the Force has been since the summer has been quite intense. Whilst the outcome of any investigation is unknown and beyond our control, the best response we can make is to continue to work hard to reduce crime and disorder in the District, working with partners and the communities as closely as we ever have. In future years and with reduced funding, such close links will be all the more important for us all if we are to achieve the common goal to make Redcar and Cleveland as attractive and safe a place to live, work in and visit as we possibly can.
In closing, I would like to reiterate how pleased I am to be back in the District and I look forward to following the lead of my predecessor in providing the best possible policing service.
