Road users in Cleveland were targeted last month as part of a national campaign aimed at ensuring drivers and passengers are keeping safe by wearing their seatbelts.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit took part in the TISPOL campaign from Monday 15th February until Sunday 21st February.
Acting Inspector Gary Hatton of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “It is vital that all adults in cars wear seatbelts, and more importantly, children should always be restrained, depending on their age, in car seats or with seatbelts.
“During this week-long campaign 40 adults were reported for failing to wear their seatbelts and two parents were reported for allowing their children to be unrestrained. This is disappointing; everyone needs to understand that they risk serious injury or death if they are involved in a collision whilst not wearing a seatbelt.”
Those found not wearing seatbelts were issued with a fixed penalty notice of £60.
