Technology of Helicopter Locates Injured Woman in Woodland

Cleveland Air Operations Unit were called on to use the technology of the helicopter to help trace a woman in a wooded area who had leg injuries.

The officers were called at around 5.20pm to Liverton Woods in East Cleveland last night after reports of rescue workers struggling to locate a woman suffering from leg injuries after she slipped and fell whilst walking.

Her walking companion guided the officers via telephone towards their location, then thermal imaging was used to pin-point her and a light from the helicopter was used to guide paramedics, fire brigade and mountain rescue teams to her.

An 18-year-old local woman, who had a suspected broken ankle, was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Sergeant Dave Clark, of Cleveland Air Operations Unit, said: “It is important that people who are injured are found as quickly as possible, and in this instance, it was proving difficult because of the area to locate the woman.

“The helicopter is equipped with a range of technology which helps us trace people and wherever we can be of assistance we will be. We wish the woman a speedy recovery.”
