Helicopter Drops in to Stockton School

Cleveland Air Operations Unit visited young pupils at a Stockton school on Wednesday 10th March to talk to them about the specialist department and what they do.

Year six pupils from Tilery Primary School and year five pupils from Norton Primary School were given a presentation by officers from the Air Operations team after the helicopter flew into the grounds of Tilery Primary School, much to the amazement of the children.

Sergeant Dave Clark of the Air Operations Unit said: “We love visiting schools in the area and showing the pupils around the helicopter. It gives the students a chance to learn about the work that the unit does and it is important for us to liaise with children in order for them to develop their understanding of what the police do so that in future they can have the confidence to come to us if need be.”

Liz Miller, Deputy Headteacher of Tilery Primary School, said: “All of our children, from nursery to year six watched excitedly as the police helicopter landed. The visit proved to be a wonderful stimulus for discussion, writing and drawing for the younger children, whilst the older children were eager to research the work of the Air Operations Unit. It was a very effective way of helping children to understand the supportive role of the police within the community.”
