Darren Manders Murder – Seven Years On

Police are continuing there appeal for information on the murder of Middlesbrough man Darren Manders who’s body was found in woodland in Middlesbrough seven years ago today.

Darren, who was 31 years old at the time, was found in an area known as Starvation Clump Near Nunthorpe on 2nd July 2003.  He had been reported missing four weeks earlier, having last been seen near his home in Bow Street, Middlesbrough on 5th June 2003.

A post mortem examination showed that Darren had died from severe head injuries.

Two men aged 26 and 33 at the time were arrested in connection with the enquiry but were released without charge.

Today, Darren’s family will be visiting the site where their son was found and will be reflecting on how his life could otherwise have been.

Detective Superintendent Gordon Lang, Head of Cleveland Police’s Murder Investigation Team said: “This case will remain open until those responsible are brought to justice.  What is particularly tragic is that Darren had a son who he never got the chance to see.

“Spencer was born after Darren died, the bright seven year old who could have brought so much joy to his life has missed out on not knowing his father.  And his two other sons, Lee and Jason have also been left without their father.

“Today is a very sad day for all of Darren’s family.  The very least deserve they deserve is to know why Darren died and who was responsible.

“Circumstances and relationships change and move on.  Someone who may have not wished to help at the time may now feel thy time is rigfht to come forward.  If anyone has any information about Darren’s murder which they now feel able to disclose, I urge them to get in touch.”
