An operation aimed towards goods vehicles using Cleveland’s roads has had another successful day after thirteen vehicles were dealt with for a number of defects and offences during a clampdown yesterday (Tuesday 27th July.)
Cleveland Police’s Roads Policing Unit, the Emergency Planning Unit and the Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA) took part in the national operation between 9.30am and 1pm on the A19 in Stockton.
A total of 23 vehicles were stopped, three were issued with prohibitions, seven were given advice notices and three vehicles were dealt with for other offences, including missing emergency equipment, missing paperwork and insufficient fire extinguishers. One goods vehicle was seized for having no insurance.
Acting Inspector Gary Hatton, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “The Cleveland area has a high concentration of vehicles carrying dangerous goods and the work we do to stop and check these vehicles in partnership with VOSA is vital to all our safety. The results show that operators and drivers are not achieving full compliance with the law and that is a concern for us. We will continue to carry out these operations to ensure that these dangerous loads are carried safely.”
