Eston Residents Thanked For Their Ongoing Support

Eston people were today praised by their Neighbourhood Policing Team for showing “tremendous community spirit.”

During the summer, residents discovered that a memorial commemorating local mine and other workers had been vandalised and spray painted.

And PC Brian Lightowler thanked local people for helping police discover who was responsible: “Not only did residents provide the information which allowed us to make these arrests, but they all pulled together and made good the damage.”

A 14-year-old local boy was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and he was charged with seven offences on Monday 6th September.  He will appear at Teesside Youth Court next week.

And another youngster, age 15, was charged with three offences of criminal damage on Tuesday 7th September.  He too will appear at Teesside Youth Court.

PC Lightowler said residents had worked tirelessly on improving the local environment with regular clean-ups, new floral displays and other initiatives: “The area looks a whole lot better thanks to their sterling efforts and we in the Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to thank them for their ongoing support and assistance.”

Ann Higgins, Chair of Eston Residents Association, said: “We would like to thank the Eston Police Team for their efforts and hard work to get the results they have achieved for these despicable acts of vandalism.”
