Cleveland’s Chief Constable Speaks at National Event

Cleveland Police’s Chief Constable Sean Price has been speaking at a national event on Policing in the Recession.

The conference was held this week (7th September) in London by the Police Foundation, and featured a number of speakers including Sir Michael Bichard, Director, Institute for Government and Peter Neyroud, Chief Executive of the National Policing Improvement Agency.

The event focused on how the reductions in public spending will impact on the future of policing in the UK and how to address these challenges.

Chief Constable Sean Price is the joint national lead for the Information Systems Improvement Strategy (ISIS) with Richard Earland, Chief Information Officer for the National Policing Improvement Agency, and they both spoke at the conference.

ISIS aims to transform the way that police information systems are developed, procured, implemented and managed across the police service.

The ISIS vision is to deliver more efficient and effective policing by joining up IT systems at a national level so that every challenge facing the police from neighbourhood policing to counter-terrorism can be addressed.

Chief Constable of Cleveland Police Sean Price said: “This is a critical time for public sector spending and we have to demonstrate that we are doing things that provide value for money.

“Nationally it does not make sense to have 43 police forces using different information systems and the aim of ISIS is to join forces together so that we are more efficient. I’m pleased to have spoken at the conference and talked to colleagues about the challenges for the future.

”Obviously one of the key projects we have locally is our outsourcing contract with Steria, which will see around 470 support staff transfer to the private sector company, while keeping their terms and conditions for the life of the contract – ten years – and no compulsory redundancies for the same period.

“One of our key priorities has always been to protect jobs and services during this difficult financial climate and we will continue to make that commitment.”
