The Youth IAG is an independent group of young people aged between 13 – 19 years who work alongside Cleveland Police in Redcar and Cleveland. The aim is to encourage local young people to have their say on how the Police can improve the quality of the service they deliver and for the Police to seek the views of young people when deciding on Policies and procedures, particularly in relation to the impact they may have on young people. The young people in the group are encouraged to give their views as to how they feel the area should be policed .The Youth Independent Advisory group gives young people the chance to make a difference to the way in which their community is policed.
Members of the Youth IAG will work together to build relationships and encourage confidence amongst the group through social activities and team building events.
Since the first meeting, the group has attended a 2 day team building exercise at Carlton near Thirsk. They have also attended the Redcar and Cleveland Police HQ at Kirkleatham where they were taken on a tour of the building and given an insight in to how the area was policed.
The group meets every 2 months. At present the group consists of around 12 members but new members will be welcome to join.
