Temporary Chief Constable Simon Nickless

Simon Nickless

Simon’s policing career began in 1992 in Nottinghamshire where initially he performed a number of uniform roles, getting to know the local communities.

In 2000 he was successful in applying for the Accelerated Promotion scheme, which provided the opportunity to learn more about policing nationally.

In 2002, Simon took up his first command as Neighbourhood Inspector, the learning from which has played a significant role throughout the rest of his career, in particular the roll out of Neighbourhood Policing across Nottinghamshire.  At the same time he also led the Citizen Focus programme aimed improving the quality of service to victims of crime and tackling the issues that matter to local communities.

In 2007, Simon took on the role of Operations Superintendent in Nottingham City before becoming the Deputy Commander with responsibilities including Preventing Violent Extremism, performance and the policing of major events. These roles provided the experience to become a Divisional Commander and in 2009, he was promoted to Chief Superintendent of Mansfield and Ashfield Division, prior to becoming Divisional Commander of Nottingham City in 2011.

Simon has previously carried out the role of Vice Chair of the national Burglary Working Group and has been a Peer Reviewer, looking at improvements that can be achieved in other police areas.  He holds a Master Degree in Police Leadership and Management and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.  He is married to Nicky and in his spare time enjoys a wide variety of sporting activities.
