8th April 2013

On 8th April 2013 at around 4:30pm, police were called to a supermarket on Trunk Road, Eston to reports of three teenagers that had been stopped by staff on suspicion of stealing underwear and make-up.

The officer agreed with the duty manager to use a Restorative Justice approach to deal with two 16-year-old girls involved. The teenagers, who had no interaction with police before, were told of the implications for the store due to shoplifting and the long term consequences of being in trouble with the police. Their parents were called to collect them and the girls then had to explain to their parents what had happened and why they had been involved in shoplifting – their parents then took them home. A 19-year-old girl involved was given an adult caution.
