Four teenagers have been arrested after a pursuit of a vehicle believed to have been involved in an aggravated burglary at an elderly man’s home in Middlesbrough.
Around 8:45am on Friday 7th April, officers from the Cleveland Police Special Operations Unit responded to a report of a BMW abandoned in the area of Baysdale Road, Thornaby.
When officers arrived the vehicle had gone, but later the same day it was spotted by dog unit officers in Thornaby and it made off at speed. After a pursuit, which went off-road, the vehicle became bogged down in a grassed area and the occupants fled with police following behind.
The suspected driver was quickly arrested, however, three other occupants made off across farmland and police dogs Sabre and Harley gave chase. After the suspects jumped into a river and tried to get over a fence, they were detained with the assistance of Sabre and Harley.
Four males aged 15, 18, 15 and 16 were arrested in connection with the incident and have now been bailed whilst enquiries continue.
