Dean Wise aged 32 from Guisborough has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to wounding with intent, engaging in controlling/ coercive behaviour and intentional strangulation.
Speaking of the sentence, Detective Inspector Rebecca Harland from the Domestic Abuse Unit said: “Wise subjected his victim to a tirade of horrendous physical abuse which lasted for hours and resulted in the victim suffering a fractured pelvis, spine, wrist and ribs (amongst other injuries).
“Following the attack, he prevented the victim from seeking medical attention and she had to suffer in tremendous pain throughout the night until she called for an ambulance the following day.
“The actions of Wise were barbaric and cruel and made the victim fear for her life. To this day she is still suffering with anxiety from the attack.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the victim for her bravery for reporting the attack and for seeking help. Without her strength in coming forward, Wise would not have been convicted for his crimes.
“Detective Constable Michaela Sanderson from the Domestic Abuse Unit conducted a very diligent investigation to ensure Wise was convicted and that the victim was well supported by the Force and partner agencies, and I would like to thank her for her outstanding work.
“The Force will not tolerate horrific crimes committed by people such as Wise and he rightly deserves to spend time in prison to pay for his unforgivable actions”.
