A man has been sentenced to 28 months in custody after being convicted of controlling and coercive behaviour and making threats with a bladed article.
The sentence was handed to Joe Tullius, aged 18, from Middlesbrough, on Friday 4th August at Teesside Crown Court.
Detective Inspector Rebecca Harland from Cleveland Police Domestic Abuse Unit said: “Tullius subjected his victim to a torrent of physical and emotional abuse throughout their relationship which exacerbated after she tried to end the relationship.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the victim for her bravery for reporting the abuse she suffered and for seeking help. Without her strength in coming forward, Tullius would not have been convicted for his crimes.
“PC Luci Clarke carried out a very diligent and expeditious investigation, which included charging Tullius with further offences against the same woman and breaches of his bail conditions whilst Tullius was awaiting his court date.”
Anyone who may have been a victim of domestic abuse is urged to contact police to report it. Further information on support agencies and ways to report can be found on the Cleveland Police website: www.cleveland.police.uk
