An 18-year-old man has been sentenced to 29 months in prison after he was pursued by officers and found to be in possession of a substantial amount of class A drugs.
Kai Inico, from Stockton, was sighted by police in Central Gardens on Friday 19th May this year before he made off and was pursued by a plain clothed officer on a bike onto Elm Street and Corporation Road in the town centre before eventually being arrested.
Members of the public watched on as the man tried to make good his escape.
The man was seen to drop items which were recovered including crack cocaine valued at around £2,650 and heroin worth around £870. Scales and other paraphernalia were also recovered.
Footage shows the moment officers swooped and detained him.
Sergeant John Sproson, from Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Drugs won’t be tolerated on the streets of Middlesbrough. We will continue to gather intelligence and information from the public and target those who think it’s acceptable to deal drugs and cause misery for the residents and those who come to work in the town.
“Anyone with information regarding drugs activity is asked to call Cleveland Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling 0800 555 111.”
