Residential burglary has halved in some areas of Cleveland this month, with figures across the whole of Cleveland down by 29% on the same period last year.
Between 22 November 2023 and 19 December 2023, there were 82 fewer burglaries to people’s homes across the Cleveland Police area when compared with the same period last year.
There were also 44 fewer reports when compared with last month (25 October 2023 to 25 November 2023 ) - a drop of 18%.
Redcar and Cleveland district saw the biggest reduction, where the number of burglaries has dropped by 51%.
Local Policing Chief Superintendent Dave Sutherland said: “It’s fantastic to see the number of burglaries reduced from last year. Burglary is an invasive crime, one that can have a long-lasting, negative impact on victims, so it’s important that we do all that we can to tackle it.
“Whilst this is great news, we are not complacent and will continue to strive to further reduce burglary in all districts and drive action to arrest and bringing to justice anyone responsible for such a serious crime.
“At this time of year, it is particularly important that people continue to be vigilant and take crime prevention measures such as ensuring that windows and doors are locked, to prevent opportunist thieves.
“Look out for your neighbours and report any suspicious activity to police on 101.”
