A 28-year-old man from the Newton Aycliffe area has been sentenced to four years in prison for rape.
On Friday 8th December, Shane Colquhuon from Heighington, was sentenced to four years in prison at Teesside Crown Court after pleading guilty to the offence on the first day of his trial.
The incident happened in 2019 in the Stockton area, when the victim was 17 years old.
Colquhuon will remain on the sex offenders register for life and an indefinite restraining order has been put in place.
Investigating officer, Acting Detective Sergeant Shaun Watson, said: “I am pleased with the sentence which has been handed to Shane Colquhuon. He had waited until the first day of the trial to plead guilty, which put increased strain on the victim over a prolonged period.
“The victim in this case cannot be praised enough for her courage and patience throughout the investigation and subsequent court proceedings. She was resolute throughout and I hope that this sentence goes some way to helping her move forward with her life.”
Anyone who has been a victim of rape or any sexual offence is urged to contact police on 101 (or 999 in an emergency).
