Ten Vehicles Seized in Operation in Middlesbrough

Ten vehicles were seized during an operation aimed at uninsured drivers on Tuesday 5^th December.

Officers from Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Team, Council Enforcement Officers from Middlesbrough Council and DVLA colleagues carried out the joint operation in the Hemlington and Coulby Newham areas.

Those found to be uninsured could:

• get a fixed penalty of £300
• have their vehicle seized
• face a court prosecution, with the possibility of an unlimited fine and being disqualified from driving
• incur a £150 fee to release your car and have the correct insurance in place to get it back
• be subject to a higher insurance premium if caught driving uninsured
• have 6 penalty points added to their license

Acting Chief Inspector Chris Hartshorne, from Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We have taken ten uninsured vehicles from the roads as part of an operation aimed at uninsured drivers. Nationally, someone is hit by an uninsured or hit-and-run driver every twenty minutes.

“Please ensure you’re abiding by the law and insure your vehicle. Partnership working such as this will continue as agencies work together in order to keep the roads as safe as possible.”
