On Saturday 31st December two males were reported fighting on the High Street after being ejected from a bar. Officers spoke with the males and they were both sent home in taxis.
In the early hours of New Year’s Day officers detained a group of four males who were fighting outside of the Black Bull. They were given advice and ordered to leave the area.
Stockton Response Acting Inspector Roger Milward who leads on the operation said: “This operation has been successful so far and therefore we will be continuing with it for another month.
“By having hi-visibility patrols in the area and with officers engaging with the public and carrying out license checks, there has been a reduction in violence and it has been an effective way to prevent crime and to stop incidents from escalating.
“Since this operation began, officers have also been able to raise awareness of the Ask for Angela Campaign. This is a national campaign for people who feel unsafe or vulnerable and they can discreetly seek help by asking venue staff in bars for ‘Angela’. This phrase will indicate to staff that they require help from their situation.
“The trained staff member will then look to help them, whether that is reuniting them with a friend, organising them a taxi or calling security or the police”.
Officers will continue with the operation every weekend over the next month. Anyone who has any concerns or issues are asked to approach officers for assistance.
