Today marks the start of National Volunteers' Week which runs from June 1st to June 7th and celebrates the huge contribution volunteers make in their communities.
Here in Cleveland Police, we have 53 Special Constables, 50 Police Cadets and 13 Police Support Volunteers with our Specials contributing more than 14,600 hours between May 2022 and April 2023.
Special Constables are volunteer police officers who play a pivotal role in the force by helping to protect and support the people of Cleveland.
Cleveland Police Cadets is a volunteering programme for young people aged 13-17 which enables them to develop and grow in a safe environment.
Police Support Volunteers give up their spare time to undertake a variety of roles such as cleaning police vehicles and assisting with role play in training exercises.
And as National Volunteers' Week kicks off, Cleveland Police is celebrating the work of those people who dedicate their time to assisting the force.
Assistant Chief Constable, David Felton, said: “The commitment our volunteers show in sacrificing their time for the good of their community is highly commendable and we’re delighted to have them as part of the Cleveland Police family.
“Becoming a Special Constable, Police Cadet or Police Support Volunteer unlocks invaluable experiences and provides a brilliant opportunity for people in the community to make a real difference to Cleveland.
“It’s challenging but rewarding and we cannot thank our volunteers enough for their selfless work.
“I’d encourage anyone interested in finding out more information to visit our website or get in touch.”
