National Volunteers' week celebrates the tireless work of our volunteers and runs from June 1st to June 7th.
Today we spoke with two of our Police Cadets about why they wanted to join and why they love being part of Cleveland Police.
Having joined Cleveland Police Cadets in September 2022, Evie has been out in the community helping out with events and described it as “fun and exciting”.
Evie said: “I have been a cadet since September 2022. I wanted to join because I’ve always been interested in joining the police and doing this will help me to get an insight to what it will be like.
“The thing I like the most would be all the different opportunities we get, for example, we get involved with the community quite a lot when we help out with events.
“If I could describe being a cadet in three words it would be fun, exciting and interesting.”
Jayden joined Cleveland Police Cadets in November to help him achieve his dream of becoming a police officer and said he gains “invaluable practical experience”.
He said: “The cadet program not only equips me with essential knowledge but also provides invaluable practical experience that will undoubtedly support me in achieving my aspiration.
“Moreover, the program offers fantastic opportunities to work alongside the police service, engage with the community, and make a meaningful and positive impact.”
Opening up about what he likes most about being a cadet, Jayden said he enjoys engaging with the community and making a positive impact.
He said: “As a police cadet, I appreciate the multitude of opportunities it provides, allowing me to engage with the community and make a positive impact through volunteering.
“Since joining in November, I have had the privilege of participating in a wide range of events and activities. These include engagement days with specialist units, visits to the firearms training centre and headquarters, and assisting at community events in Cleveland.
“The practical experience and diverse opportunities have enriched my cadet journey, equipping me with valuable skills and allowing me to actively contribute to the community.
“There is a fantastic support network within the cadets. The camaraderie and support within the cadet unit is fantastic, with fellow cadets, senior cadets, cadet leaders, and coordinators always ready and willing to provide help.”
Jayden added: “If I had to use three words to describe being a cadet, they would be fulfilling, empowering, and rewarding.”
