Redcar residents are warned not to hand over money to unexpected callers or workmen who may call at their homes after police received a report of a suspicious man asking a Kirkleatham householder for money this lunchtime.
A white man, in his 40s and wearing a khaki “army style” jacket called at a householder’s back door asking him for a large sum of money to clear debris left over from authorised tree pruning and felling on nearby Plantation Road.
The resident declined, sending the man away without handing any money over and contacted the local authority, who recommended he should report this to police.
While we have not received any similar reports at this time, we are advising residents not to engage with unexpected callers and to never hand over money for work which they have not asked for or authorised.
Anyone with information on today’s incident is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting ref 119983.
