PCs Robinson and Walker were already at an address in Redcar on Saturday evening in response to an unrelated call to police when the boy began to choke on sweets.
The sweets had apparently dislodged by the time the officers had rushed to his aid but the child was distressed and struggling to breathe.
The constables reassured and calmed him while monitoring his airways until ambulance service colleagues arrived.
He was checked over on their arrival and declared fit to stay at home with no need to attend hospital.
The officers then completed paperwork in response to the original call for which enquiries are on-going, before completing their evening’s shift.
Local Policing Superintendent Emily Harrison said: “I was very proud to hear of PCs Robinson and Walker’s actions.
“They remained calm, reassuring and professional and the child was able to be left safe and well in the care of his family who were very grateful for their assistance.”
