Officers from the Proactive Team took more drugs and weapons from the streets of Cleveland during patrols to tackle violence in Middlesbrough town centre.
The team spotted a man acting suspiciously at the junction of Chipchase Road and Linthorpe Road at 9:15pm.
When officers approached the man, he attempted to flee the area and threw away a mobile phone.
Police chased the man, caught him and searched him, finding a Kinder Egg containing what is believed to be crack cocaine.
The 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.
He was taken to police custody for questioning.
