Appeal after Robbery

Police are appealing for information and ring doorbell, CCTV or dashcam footage after an elderly man was robbed on his doorstep by a man in Hartlepool.

The victim had first noticed the man on a grassed area on Clifton Avenue at around 5pm on Tuesday 17^th October as he was putting out his bins.  The man then knocked at the victim’s door and asked him for some money for petrol.  The victim gave him some change and he left.

At around 6pm, the suspect returned to his address and asked the victim for a note.  The victim pulled out his wallet which was on a chain and at this point, the suspect grabbed his wallet and ripped it from the key chain and pushed the victim back into his house. 

He then made off down Clifton Avenue in the direction of St Paul’s Road.

The suspect is described as a white male, pale complexion, 5ft 8” tall, slim build and dark features with a northern accent.  He had dark hair, believed to be aged 20-30 and was wearing dark clothing with a blue/grey hooded jacket with the hood up, dark bottoms and black laced up boots (potentially fake leather). He appeared to be sleeping rough.
