This site is a beta, which means it's a work in progress and we'll be adding more to it over the next few weeks. Your feedback helps us make things better, so please let us know what you think.
We had 2,392 abandoned 999 calls in September in total – which amounts to around 79 calls a day.
Last week alone, 477 999 calls were abandoned. That’s 477 people we need to call back to check they are ok!
This takes valuable time away from our call handlers answering genuine 999 calls from people who need us.
If you call us by mistake, please stay on the line and tell us you’re fine. It will only take seconds of your time and will free up our control room staff to get to those in genuine need more quickly.
