A reckless arsonist who endangered the lives of others by starting a fire outside a property in Stockton has been jailed for more than seven years.
Daniel Allison, 37, walked up to the front door of a property on Mellor Street in Stockton at around 1.00am on 16th February and placed a bag of rubbish on the doorstep before setting it alight.
The occupants were asleep in the address at the time of the incident but were awoken by a fire alarm. As they walked towards the front door, they discovered it was completely on fire.
Thankfully no one was injured however the victims were left extremely shaken by the incident.
Despite pretending he knew nothing about the incident, Allison was soon arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and was charged and remanded in custody the same day.
Allison appeared at Teesside Crown Court on 18th August where he pleaded guilty to the charge.
He appeared at the same court on Thursday 12th October where he was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison with two years and six months on extended licence.
Investigating officer, Temporary Detective Constable Abbie Monkhouse said: “Allison showed a complete disregard to the law and to the safety of the public by carrying out such a dangerous offence.
“It’s incredibly fortunate that his reckless actions did not result in serious injuries or even worse. I’m pleased Allison is now behind bars so he can reflect on what he has done.
“I hope this sentencing sends out a strong message that we will work tirelessly to bring those who endanger the lives of others in our communities to justice.”
