We are appealing for witnesses, information or footage as officers continue to investigate an incident in Stockton at the weekend.
It happened in the early hours of Saturday (00.08 am on 2nd September) in Stockton on the High Street near the Ship Inn Yard alley and the 54-year-old male victim was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees where he remains in a critical condition having suffered a serious head injury.
A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and he was questioned then released on bail pending further enquiries.
Anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw the incident or who has any other information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number quoting ref 175132.
