A burglar who smashed the window of a vulnerable family member’s home with a brick before stealing his wallet and mobile phone has been jailed.
Nicole Hamilton, 25, forced her way into the property in Brotton on the evening of Saturday 27th January 2024.
The victim’s phone was taken along with his wallet which contained money and bank cards.
Hamilton, of Gladstone Street, Brotton, was subsequently arrested and charged with burglary and theft with violence. She appeared at court on Thursday 28th March and pleaded guilty to the offence.
She appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Thursday 28th March where she was jailed for more than two years.
Investigating officer James Smith from the Domestic Abuse Unit said: “This was a particularly scary incident for the victim who was left really shaken up by what had happened.
“Burglary is such an invasive crime which can have a lasting impact on victims. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home and I hope this sentence has brought some comfort to the victim.”
Anyone who wishes to report an incident to police is urged to call 101 or report online via the Cleveland Police website.
