Shortly before 2pm on Saturday 20 April officers notified Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) of a suspected hazardous substance inside three bottles located at Hartlepool Police Station.
The bottles had been seized as evidence as part of an ongoing investigation.
While there was no requirement for the building to be evacuated, as a precaution, EOD attended the police station to collect the bottles and safely transported them to the beach at Seaton Carew where a controlled explosion took place.
