A rented house on Brotton’s Jackson Street has been closed by magistrates after officers from East Cleveland neighbourhood police team and the local authority presented evidence of persistent crime and ASB to them.
Residents had complained about people coming and going at all hours of the day and night, knocking on their doors and causing constant nuisance.
With their support and with essential specialist input from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s ASB team, as well as support from Accent Housing, the partners were able to collate a large volume of evidence to present to the court.
The three-month closure order was granted on Thursday (25th April)
Welcoming the outcome, East Cleveland Neighbourhoods Inspector Neil Deluce said: “Anyone who persistently causes misery to the law-abiding majority of residents will be dealt with.
“Cleveland Police will continue to work with our partner agencies and our local communities to address on-going ASB and crime which can so badly impact people’s quality of life.
“I welcome the magistrates’ decision to grant this order and I sincerely hope this will encourage anyone similarly affected to report issues to Cleveland Police.”
Cllr Adam Brook, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, added: “This kind of behaviour can cause real distress to decent people who are asking for nothing more than to live in peace in their own homes. I’d like to commend the police, our officers at the Council, and everyone involved in taking this action to protect law abiding residents.”
