At 6.40pm on Sunday 25 August a man knocked on the door of a house on Bilsdale Road and when answered by the occupant the man then went on to sexually assault her before fleeing the property.
Officers swiftly deployed to the area and conducted a thorough search.
Following numerous enquiries, a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault at around 8pm.
He was transported to custody and is currently waiting to be questioned by officers.
The investigation is ongoing, and officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the man in the area at around the time the assault took place to get in touch.
They are also appealing for information, CCTV or dash cam footage.
Detective Inspector Stephanie Field said: “Understandably the victim has been left shaken by this incident.
“As part of our enquiries, I would like to appeal to residents in the area who may have seen a man knocking on people’s doors or acting suspiciously, to please get in touch.
“I also want to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who believes they encountered or spoke to him to contact police as soon as possible.”
