Cleveland Police is continuing to work with Hartlepool Borough Council to reassure the community following the violent disorder in Hartlepool earlier this week.
An investigation into the incident is well underway and officers will continue to have a visible presence in the area.
Assistant Chief Constable David Felton said: “The behaviour we saw on Wednesday night was completely unacceptable and both ourselves and the council are committed to working together to make Hartlepool safe.
“Our main priority as agencies responsible for looking after Hartlepool is to protect our people and our communities. We will continue to engage with residents to provide reassurance and maintain safety and order in the town.”
Hartlepool Borough Council’s Managing Director, Denise McGuckin said: ‘‘The events of Wednesday night quite rightly shocked our local community and these events are not reflective of the Hartlepool that we know.
“Our Community Safety Team continues to work closely with Cleveland Police and partners on a range of community engagement activities and we continue to support the police with their investigations. Our shared goal will always be to ensure that all of our communities feel safe in Hartlepool.’’
