Yesterday afternoon our officers were driving on Haverton Hill Road near Port Clarence when they spotted a vehicle whose driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
They doubled back to get behind the vehicle whereupon they noticed the load on the back was bouncing around and moving as the vehicle travelled down the road.
The officers stopped the vehicle and issued the driver with a traffic offence report (TRO) for the insecure load, and a fixed penalty notice for failing to wear a seatbelt.
Along with speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt is one of the Fatal Four – the main cause of serious and fatal road traffic collisions.
We’ll continue to take action against drivers whose vehicles pose a risk to themselves and to other road users.
