A man is in police custody after being detained by police dog Kira after a woman was reportedly attacked in a suspected robbery this morning, Friday 20th December.
Around 7:20am today, police received a report that a lone woman was reportedly approached by a man from behind on Hoskins Lane in Middlesbrough, who attacked her, leaving her with a broken nose, and then went on to steal her mobile phone.
Dog handler PC Lee Whitehouse who was on patrol with police dog Kira, searched the Easterside area and spotted a man who was believed to match the description, who then made off on foot when he was asked to stop.
PD Kira immediately followed the male and detained him.
A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and he remains in police custody at this time whilst enquiries continue.
