A man has today been sentenced following a joint investigation by Cleveland Police and the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU).
Paul Barron was charged with attempted sexual communications with a child and arranging sexual activity with a child which occurred between January and February this year.
The 56-year-old from Hartlepool appeared at court where he pleaded guilty to both offences.
He appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Thursday 19th December where the judge sentenced him to 30 months.
Barron was also made subject to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).
Investigating officer Detective Constable Barnes from the Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT) said: “Together with our colleagues at NEROCU, we will continue to take action against anyone intent on causing harm to children.
“If you are carrying out online offences against children; you will be caught, it is only a matter of time before we bring you to justice.
“We’d encourage any child or young person who is concerned about someone they’re speaking to online, to tell someone about it or report it directly to the police.”
Inspector Allen Hull, from the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU), said: “I want to thank everyone involved in this investigation, it has been another strong display of partnership work between ourselves and Cleveland Police.
“Together we have demonstrated the robust approach to pursuing anyone looking to abuse and exploit children and this will continue under Operational Sentinel.
“We would always encourage anyone with information about this type of offending, or anyone who has been a victim to come forward and talk to police.”
