Middlesbrough Venue Joins Cleveland Police in Sharing Operation Limit Campaign Message

Brand new Middlesbrough venue, STACK, has joined Cleveland Police in raising awareness of the dangers of drink and drug driving, as a national campaign continues over the festive season.

In the run up to Christmas and through to the new year period, a National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) campaign is taking place targeting those who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Data suggests there is an increase in incidents of driving whilst impaired at this time of year, therefore Cleveland Police are proactively focussing attention on this issue with a view to prevent, educate and enforce where necessary.

Customers to the new STACK will see digital board advertising of the campaign which warns of the dangers of getting behind the wheel whilst under the influence.

So far during the campaign there have been 93 drivers arrested; with 40 offences of being under the influence of alcohol, 52 offences of being under the influence of drugs and another two who refused to provide a sample.

Chief Inspector Stephen Clyburn said: “We welcome any support in spreading the message as far and wide as possible that driving under the influence is not acceptable; it could cost lives and we urge anyone who is going on a night out to consider how they will get home – arrange a lift or book a taxi in advance, and consider whether they are fit to drive the next morning.

“We want everyone to enjoy the festive period but we also want everyone to be safe, and we would encourage people to plan ahead when they’re socialising so that they’re not tempted to take the risk and get behind the wheel whilst under the influence.”

Neill Winch, CEO of STACK, added: "At STACK Middlesbrough, we're all about bringing people together for great times, amazing food, and live entertainment. But part of that experience is making sure everyone gets home safely. Partnering with Cleveland Police on this campaign felt like a natural fit, as we want our customers to celebrate responsibly and make the most of what we have to offer without putting themselves or others at risk. Let’s enjoy the festive season, but let’s do it safely."
