A 20-year-old man who was found guilty of harassment at court last week has been issued with a restraining order - as well as a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order for repeatedly defying warnings about his nuisance behaviour in Redcar town centre.
Connor Nicholas had persistently loitered in the town’s shops' and businesses’ doorways, outside food outlets and at cash points, often begging for food and money and becoming verbally abusive to retail staff and the public when asked to move on.
His CBO bans him from entering Redcar town centre, and under the terms of his two-year restraining order he must not enter the town’s Station Road.
Nicholas will also be required to complete unpaid work – and pay court costs plus a victim surcharge.
Redcar & East Cleveland NPT Inspector Neil Deluce said: “We will not tolerate persistent ASB, nuisance or criminality and, with the support of our colleagues at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, we’ll seek to pursue criminal behaviour orders wherever possible. We will monitor Nicholas and if he breaches the conditions of either order, he could end up being imprisoned.”
Cllr Adam Brook, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, added: “People deserve to go about their business in peace and this kind of behaviour can not be tolerated. I’d like to thank the police, our own officers and everyone involved in this case for doing what it takes to protect residents.”
