Officers from the town’s Neighbourhood Policing Team discovered the farm inside the property on Acklam Road at around 5.25pm on Friday 19 January.
There was no one inside the apartment at the time officers attended and an investigation is now underway to find those responsible.
As part of their enquiries, officers are encouraging anyone who may have information to get in touch.
Sergeant Danielle Gibson said: “Following enquiries, we were able to identify that this property was being used for cannabis cultivation and have successfully seized approximately half a million pounds worth of cannabis plants.
“While our investigation is ongoing, I want to take this opportunity to encourage residents to be our eyes and our ears and to come forward with information relating to drug activity occurring in their area.
“We will then act on that information and continue to remove drugs from your community.”
Anyone who has information is asked to contact Cleveland Police by calling 101 quoting SE24010975.
Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
