Officers from Middlesbrough’s Proactive Team found a cannabis farm in a house on Surrey Street in Middlesbrough yesterday morning, during a planned raid on the property.
Following the receipt of information from the community regarding suspicious activity at the address, officers forced entry to the property at around 10:15am on Monday 29 January, discovering a cannabis farm inside.
Most of the plants had already been harvested and removed by the offenders, who were not in the property when officers arrived.
Sergeant John Sproson of the Proactive Team said: “Officers discovered evidence of a previous fire in the loft due to a dangerous electrical set up inside of the house.
“Luckily, the fire appeared not to have taken, but would have been extremely dangerous to neighbouring properties had it have taken hold and spread.
“This demonstrates the dangers that the cannabis farms we recover pose to our communities.”
If you have concerns about suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please call us on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
