Cleveland Police is celebrating its Neighbourhood Policing Teams during a national week of action, starting Monday 22nd January 2024.
Led by the College of Policing, the week will see forces across the country raise awareness of the crucial work undertaken by Neighbourhood Officers every single day.
Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and Neighbourhood Officers police the Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Stockton and Redcar and Cleveland areas. The work of these officers is pivotal in helping to keep communities safe.
Neighbourhood officers work in the heart of our communities, listening to and responding to local issues and concerns around everything from antisocial behaviour, antisocial use of vehicles and criminal damage, to drug use and serious violence.
The neighbourhood teams work closely with partner agencies to tackle local issues such as local authorities, housing providers, and other emergency services and their breadth of work includes engagement, problem solving and targeted activity.
Almost 7,000 incidents were attended by neighbourhood policing teams across the whole of Cleveland in 2023.
Head of Local Policing, Acting Assistant Chief Constable Dave Sutherland, said: “Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of what we do every day; local officers are out within our communities speaking with residents, business owners and visitors, listening to concerns. Working alongside Response Officers, officers from specialist units, Special constables and other police volunteers, officers from Neighbourhood Teams drive local action to help tackle those issues which are very important to local people.
“Our neighbourhood teams across the force area show dedication, professionalism and commitment in their role and strive to protect people and protect communities across Teesside, and I’d like to publicly thank them for this.
“We hope that throughout Neighbourhood Policing Week of Action, we offer an insight into the work of local policing teams so the public see some of this crucial activity they do day in and day out to help keep people safe."
