Redcar & Cleveland officers are reminding residents to be cautious if people call at their door offering to carry out work on their homes, gardens or driveways.
We’re also asking local people to look out for their elderly or vulnerable family members, neighbours or friends after two separate incidents where residents in the St Germain’s area of Marske were approached by a group of males purporting to be from a driveways and home improvement company.
The men pressured the householders into paying hundreds of pounds for what turned out to be poor quality or incomplete work – and the men have not returned to rectify or complete it.
We’ve linked in with our Trading Standards colleagues, and officers will be in the area whilst the vulnerable elderly residents affected will be safeguarded and offered crime prevention advice and equipment.
We’d remind anyone seeking to have work done in and around their home to use personal recommendations, to try to obtain a few quotes from reputable, established companies and not to hand over the full amount of money owed until any work has been completed to your satisfaction.
Please look after any friends or family members who may be elderly or vulnerable and try to support them in making decisions when getting work carried out.
If you live in the Marske area and have any information on rogue tradespeople or any doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage which could help our ongoing enquiries, please contact us here Something you've seen or heard | Cleveland Police or contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number quoting ref 139443.
